Bikes vs. Cars, a new film project from BANANAS! * and Big Boys Gone Bananas! * director Fredrik Gertten. Climate change and the daily stress of being locked up in a car frustrate people more than ever. People in cities around the world take on the bicycle as a Do It Yourself tool for change. But still: Car sales are booming. 1 billion cars today. 2 billion in 2020.

What does this communicate to average people about riding bicycles and about those who do? Does it make people want to begin riding? Should it?
I don’t know if I’m an average person, but it seems to single out only the advantages to bicycles and the disadvantages to cars (I could make a video of riding a bicycle in the snow, sleet, cold, heat and rain, and then show driving a car at 65 mph up to Duluth on a Wednesday evening siting in the air conditioning and listening to music), All the while bringing out some fringe anti-bicycle nuts as being “typical car drivers”, and perpetuating the “us vs them” mentality. “Can’t we all get along” was a 10 second sound bite in contrast to the entire rest of the video.
