About the film*: OVARIAN PSYCOS (USA, 2016)
Riding at night through Eastside Los Angeles, the Ovarian Psycos use their bicycles to confront the violence in their lives. At the helm of the crew is founder Xela de la X, a single mother and poet M.C. dedicated to recruiting an unapologetic, misfit crew of women of color, yet she struggles to strike a balance between motherhood and activism. Evie, a bright eyed recruit, joins the crew and despite poverty and the concerns of her protective Salvadoran mother, discovers a newfound confidence. Meanwhile, Andi Xoch, a founding member and street artist who knows the deeply activist legacy from which the Ovas emerge, journeys to become a new leader within the crew.
The film Ovarian Psycos rides along with the Ova’s, exploring the impact of the group’s activism, born of feminist ideals, Indigenous understanding and an urban/hood mentality, on neighborhood women and communities as they confront injustice, racism, and violence, and take back their streets one ride at a time.
*Content note: There is mention of violence and abuse in the film, as a part of the reality that many WTFs of Color face in our lives.
Your donation will benefit several organizations!
We will donate to CTUL for use of the space. CTUL organizes workers like janitors and fast food workers for better labor conditions- SI SE PUEDE!
The rest of the funds will be split between Ovarian Psycos and their community healing space in Los Angeles and Grease Rag, your local friendly group of WTFs working to create safer spaces and sharing skills for WTF empowerment!
