With 53.49% of votes, Jeff Wagner’s message of “Wake the **** up, Minneapolis” easily won this year’s “Best Campaign Stunt” award – no 34 rounds of balloting needed.
Mr. Wagner received the most national attention out of the entire slate of mayoral candidates in 2013. He was featured on MSNBC, Deadspin, Al Jazeera America, Daily Mail, etc. The ad’s “shirtless hero aesthetic” was compared to the imagery often used by the Vladimir Putin regime, but apparently it’s less effective here in Minneapolis.
Mr. Wagner received 164 first place votes and was defeated in the 16th round of ballot counting.
Second place
Cam Winton’s press conference in a pot hole.
Cam Winton received 7511 first place votes and was defeated in the 33rd round of ballot counting. He was the fourth candidate standing, behind Hodges, Andrew, and Samuels.
Third place
Cam Winton’s Rabbit & the Hare press conference about city permitting
Fourth place
Jeff Wagner rounds out the Streets.MN Top Campaign Stunts of 2013 with “Shoegate,” a video apparently overshadowed by his own swimsuitgate, receiving only one vote in our poll.
