Northwestern National Life Building is possibly my favorite building in downtown Minneapolis (and definitely the favorite of the immediate post-war era). And the portico is one of the best features. I absolutely love the way it preserves the original sightline (and walking path) of Nicollet Avenue toward the Gateway Park flagpole and the river.
Good thing you were able to take that picture without being run off the property; last time I biked by there I saw a security guard with a power trip harassing a photographer on the sidewalk.

I’ve long thought that portico had the makings of the best sidewalk cafe in the city.
