Thinking of Joining streets.mn? Just Do It!

I joined the streets.mn board in 2017. After the election I was seeking more opportunities to become a more active member in my community and be an agent of change. Prior to joining streets.mn I was just gaining experience of what it was like to be on a Neighborhood Association board. I was just newly elected as the Vice President in my neighborhood association. So, when the opportunity came up thanks to my friend, neighbor and fellow board member Hannah Prichard, I jumped at the chance to join streets.mn and learn what it takes to run this organization. As a Black woman living, working and raising a family in North Minneapolis, I wanted to bring a perspective to the table surrounding issues with different modes of transportation and livability in my community that is under represented.

Going into 2019, I will be stepping down from my position on the board. My desire is to still remain active with the streets.mn community and actually contribute more to “Nomi Love” this coming year.

I am writing to encourage those who engage with the streets.mn community – be it just reading the articles, commenting, and participating on the forums to join the streets.mn board. Deadline for putting your name in the hat is by 8am on Monday November 12th.

I am especially calling out those similar to myself – those with limited experience of being on a board. I got into this very “wet behind the ears” and unsure if I was doing things right. I am glad to have cut my teeth here. You will be joining an amazing group of dedicated people with depths of experience that will guide you.

Finally, I am strongly encouraging people from underrepresented backgrounds, locations, perspectives, etc. to join and bring your voice to the table here at streets.mn.
