Do you ride Uber and Lyft? Did you know public transit agencies are replicating the Uber-Lyft model in the Twin Cities suburbs? Want to spend some more time with friends made at our summer picnic this past Saturday?
Then join Streets.mn and transportation journalist H. Jiahong Pan on Friday, July 19, for a trip to Asia Mall in Eden Prairie. We will then head to downtown Minneapolis, using SouthWest Prime to connect to the Orange Line!
Microtransit is similar to Uber and Lyft. It can be hailed just like an Uber and Lyft, but you may be sharing the ride with others. No credit card? No problem. You can pay in cash. And the drivers aren’t independent contractors; they’re unionized W-2 employees.
Trip Logistics
We will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the northwest corner of Eighth Street and Marquette Avenue in downtown Minneapolis — right by the IDS Center — where we will take a SouthWest Transit express bus to Southwest Station. From there, we will be greeted by SouthWest Transit staff, who will show us how to use Prime.
We’ll then ride SW Prime to Asia Mall and spend some time there before requesting a ride to the Knox and 76th Street station around 6:30 p.m. After transferring from SW Prime to the Orange Line, we expect to be back in downtown Minneapolis around 7:30 p.m.
Note: Due to capacity constraints, advance registration is required. Registration is first-come, first-served, so please take a few minutes to do it now. Registration closes on Thursday, July 18.
Registration and detailed information on what to bring is available here. We hope to see you on Friday, July 19!
