Do you like a challenge? Or just want to show some support for streets.mn and have some fun?
The League of American Bicyclists (LAB) is running the National Bike Challenge through the end of September. And there is, as of today, a streets.mn team!
The primary purpose is to get people out riding their bicycles everyday which is something I heartily support. Companies like 3M have noted significant increases in bicycling among their employees and corresponding improvement in health and weight.
In support of the just-get-out-and-ride element, you get 20 points for the first mile you ride each day and 1 point for each additional mile.
Now, I’m not big on logging miles or anything. I actually prefer not to. However, for this summer and just for the National Bike Challenge, I am. You can enter miles manually in to the Bike Challenge website or use one of three apps; Endomondo, MapMyRide, or Moves. I’m using Endomondo (when I remember to) and it seems to work pretty well. And it’s free (or cheap if you want more features). When you setup your app don’t forget to note if your default riding is for sport/fitness or transportation.
BTW, the challenge began on 1 May. If you want to you can manually enter your miles prior to when you sign up. If you already use one of the three apps above it should grab all of your prior miles automatically.
The streets.mn team is open to everyone who reads or supports streets.mn.
