Map Monday: Saint Paul Horsecars and Cablecars

stp streetcar map 1870s

The 1870s were a long time ago. Minnesota didn’t even become a state until 1858. The population of Saint Paul was 20,000 in 1870, doubled to 40,000 in 1880, and tripled to 135,000 by 1890. (Imagine that level of growth!)  Even in those early days, it seems that they had horsecars.
