Anna Zivarts is a visually impaired parent, nondriver and author of When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency (Island Press, 2024). Anna directs the Disability Mobility Initiative at Disability Rights Washington where she launched the Week Without Driving challenge. Before working in the disability community, Anna spent fifteen years as a communications strategist for labor and political campaigns, worked for the LGBT & HIV/AIDS Project at the ACLU, and co-founded the NYC-based communications and storytelling firm, Time of Day Media. Anna earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Stanford University.
