In an email sent Friday morning, June 21, Hennepin County announced it would be restriping lanes of Park Avenue South (County Road 33) and Portland Avenue South (County Road 35) to restore the buffered bike lanes present before the 35@94 freeway project began.
Nicole Salica reported in streets.mn last year on restriping Park and Portland to add a peak-hours-only transit lane between Lake and 14th streets.
Hennepin County email statement:
Expect restriping work next week
Starting Monday, June 24, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be restriping Park Avenue (County Road 33) between 18th and 29th streets and Portland Avenue (County Road 35) between Franklin Avenue (County Road 5) and 29th Street.
Crews will restore travel lanes, bike lanes and buffers back to the configurations before the 35W@94 reconstruction project began.
Timing
Weather permitting, restriping work on Park and Portland avenues is expected to take three days to complete.
Impacts
This work will be completed under traffic, which means roads will remain open while the work is occurring.
During the work, there will be lane restrictions for people both driving and biking.
Parking restrictions will also be in place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The anticipated schedule is as follows:
- Monday, June 24: East side of Park Avenue
- Tuesday, June 25: West side of Portland Avenue
- Wednesday, June 26: West side of Park Avenue and east side of Portland Avenue

Hooray!
I can confirm! I witnessed them restriping this week and was very happy.
Also thanks to Nicole Salica’s post this past week (or thereabouts). Because of it, I reached out to my City Councilor, who said action was being taken.
