Raise Your Voice on the Future of Bike Share in Minneapolis

The City of Minneapolis is set to renew their bike share contract sometime in the next year. In this contract, I think the City should require bike share providers to more equitably distribute bikes, and provide some public funding for the system. I also created a survey to gather what other folks thought.

Nice Ride Gives Membership Extensions Following Setbacks

On Monday, June 10, Nice Ride sent an email to members with two statements addressing its recent setbacks with dockless hubs and electric bikes. In compensation for the missed expectations, Nice Ride extended yearly memberships by 45 days. In the first statement, Nice Ride implied that the rollout of its dockless hubs was delayed because […]

Predictions on the Future of Mobility

I was reflecting on the May 8 Chart of the Day post on micro-mobility that mapped the middle 68 percentile of trips for 18 modes of transportation, and I collected a few thoughts on the future of mobility. Here’s a chart from a recent report from NACTO (nat’l assn. of city transp. officials) showing trends in bike share ridership. As you can see, bike share is up up up! (h/t to streetsblog for the link): The caveat is that everything seems to be changing. As you are probably aware, Nice Ride is moving […]

Cities Should Take the Lead on Dockless Bike Sharing

Back in September, I attended a Nice Ride forum on “the future of bike share” in the Twin Cities. The event was of interest for a few reasons. First, I believe in bike share. We all benefit when more people to choose more often to ride a bike instead of drive a single occupant vehicle. […]
